4. DID YOU KNOW that when colleges or other businesses that give scholarships look at two applicants with similar GPAs, the student with the best volunteer record is more likely to receive the scholarship? In addition to scholarship eligibility, volunteering is just a good way to serve others. Here's a volunteer opportunity for those age 16 and up: Compassionate Heart ministry is a Christian organization that seeks to help people with mild to moderate disabilities. They are in desperate need of mentors for their summer camp. Mentors are paired one-on-one with campers to do service projects and fun activities like laser tag and swimming. Camp takes place from Wednesday, June 27 at 6 pm until Sunday July 1, at 2 p.m. For more information or to apply, go to compheart.org, call Katelyn at 616-834-0501 (ext. 104,) or talk to Alison VanBaren about her experience with Compassionate Heart Ministries.
