Mr Matt Kuiper

Hello! My name is Matt Kuiper and I am very excited to begin this chapter of my teaching career here at CCHS. I am married to Tami and have 3 children. Alyssa and Nicki, have both graduated from Covenant and Dordt University, and Ryan is a junior here at Covenant. I started my education at Calvin College and eventually, 13 years and many schools later, finished my education at GVSU in 2005 with a social studies major and psychology minor. I was also able to get a Masters in educational leadership from Cornerstone University. In my spare time, I enjoy golfing, refereeing basketball, and hanging out with my family. So now, I am the newest and only member of the Health and Physical Education department. If something goes wrong, I guess I have no one to blame but myself! Teaching health and PE is new to me and I am grateful to James Haveman and Dan Kuiper for the work they did in developing a solid curriculum, one that encourages health in all areas of life, physical, mental, emotional, social, and most importantly, spiritual health. For PE, we are trying a wide range of activities ranging from golf to pickleball in hopes of teaching good sportsmanship and finding a lifelong love of some activity. I started my teaching career in 2006 at Heritage Christian teaching junior high classes in math, science, social studies, Bible, and PE. Even though I loved teaching junior high and loved my colleagues at Heritage, I often wondered what it would be like at the high school level. It’s that wonder that led me, along with a lot of prayer, to accept the position here at Covenant. While I will always be grateful for the friendships I made along the way, I have been blessed so far to be a part of this community at CCHS. I am thankful to the teachers, students, and parents who have welcomed me to Covenant and I look forward to getting more involved here in years to come. Please continue to pray for the current and future teachers in our good, Christian schools.
